Welcome to the official DACA website

The Cinematic Arts department is the newest of the arts departments at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and has quickly earned a name for itself by producing professional-level filmmakers and award-winning films. With great success in DACA’s program concentrations; documentary, narrative, and experimental film making, DACA is keenly focused on continued student achievement within this wonderful art form.

Formerly the "Film/TV Department" established in 1997, DACA began as an extension of the Theatre Department. In 2001, it became its own department with only 10 students. In 2003, the department was given its own studio, which now features a full set, a green screen area, a live TV production area, a main classroom/viewing room, several isolated editing bays, and a large editing facility with over a dozen state of the art Macs.

Each member of DACA's talented and dedicated faculty provides skilled instruction in all aspects of film making history, theory, and real world application as DACA students are immersed daily in a demanding curriculum designed to prepare them for a post-secondary education or direct entry into the film or television industry.

In DACA’s state-of-the-art studio and editing facilities, students learn the complete process of film making. Students receive meticulous instruction in cinematography, lighting, and sound as they develop all of the skills necessary to move from the pre-production stages of inception, story development, and screenwriting; to full crew stage and on location production; through all phases of editing and post-production to the final product – an entertaining and technically adept motion picture.

DACA: A Complete Film Making Experience

Students utilize the latest equipment including HD cameras, professional grade lighting and support gear, and the current integration of Blu-Ray playback capabilities which enhance the viewing experience. As well, opportunities are present for students to comprehensively learn and master software, such as Final Cut Pro, priming them to be able to quickly become professionally certified as proficient DACA alumni.

DACA student major projects have won a variety of awards in local, state, national, and international competitions. These events provide students an important avenue for networking, seeing what others are producing, meeting industry professionals, and for providing valuable feedback on their own ideas and productions. Major awards have been presented from film festivals across the country including those in Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, NFFTY, at the International Film Festival in Ft Lauderdale, FL, and recently at the FAME awards in Orlando.

We invite you to contact us with your comments, watch a few samples of DACA work on the film trailers page, and return often to see what DACA is up to on our news page, our Facebook blog, as well as our YouTube Channel. We thank all who support student film making and give special acknowledgment to those who donate to DACA either directly or through our merchandise page and various fundraisers and events. Thank you one and all for helping to make DACA one of the premier secondary film programs in the nation!
